The Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood Single Malt Scotch Whisky
entertainment  home | admin
I enjoy drinking whisky and when I received this bottle as a gift from a friend of mine, I was pleasantly surprised. The Balvenie Doublewood Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a 12-year old single malt, which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods: Whisky Oak and then Sherry Oak. During its period of maturation The Balvenie Doublewood is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill Spanish oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt - the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor.
Palate is heavy with vanilla and woodiness, complimented with a nutty sweetness and hints of spices along with the sherry notes. The finish is long and warming and the flavors offer a complex combination of caramel and honey all together in the end.
This Scotch stands on its own as a beautiful example of what quality Speyside whisky (from the Balvenie Distillerie) and careful oak aging can do, and with a fantastic price point (between $35 to $50). To my own experience, this single malt is wonderful with a piece of ice or a drop of mineral water. I recommend you get this bottle for your collection at home.
Founded by William Grant in 1892, the Balvenie distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky located in Dufftown, Scotland and owned by William Grant & Sons.
