Architecture and design in Copenhagen is not limited to tourist spots and sightseeing, there are a plethora of well-designed hotels that incorporate art within its hospitable walls. Tamsin Bradshaw of the Asia Tatler magazine along with the selection of bespoke concierge company Pure Entertainment Group, provides us with a list of luxury hotels to consider, in which she has hand-picked taking into consideration its service, location and of course, design.

Here is a list of 5 hotels to consider when staying in Copenhagen, Denmark:

Bella Sky Comwell
Touted as the largest design hotel in Scandinavia, Bella Sky Comwell is also the newest kid on the block, having only opened in May this year. The hotel’s theme is New Nordic Cool, and indeed, the space is just that. Bella Sky Comwell services - among others - the conference crowd flocking in to events at the Bella Center next door. The hotel is situated in Ørestad, on the island of Amager. It’s near the airport, yet only a 10-minute ride on the metro to the heart of Copenhagen. Ørestad, which is also home to BIG’s Mountain Dwellings and 8HOUSE, is a developing area, so there are few buildings anywhere near as tall as Bella Sky’s 75m (246ft).

The Radisson Blu Royal Hotel
Arne Jacobsen first created the SAS Royal Hotel - now known as the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Copenhagen - in 1958. It was the world’s first design hotel. In the early days, it sparked considerable debate due to its height; it towered above the rest of Copenhagen’s buildings and many eyed it with disapproval. Despite its initially frosty reception among the Danes, today it is treated as a natural part of the cityscape and an important part of its heritage. Arne Jacobsen’s involvement in every aspect of the project, right down to the doorknobs, cutlery and soap dishes, is highly respected. Decades after he first designed it, many of these details have sadly disappeared. The spirit of his original idea remains, however, along with the furniture he created for the hotel. The most recent redesign is one that seems in keeping with Jacobsen’s initial dream, with clean, Scandinavian lines. Warm wood and shades of grass green and sky blue fill the 260 guest rooms, giving them a light, fresh feel. One room remains exactly as it was in Jacobsen’s day: Room 606. It’s like a time capsule; a frozen moment from the 1960s, complete with dark wood paneling and a retro, clinical white-tiled bathroom. Guests can stay here if they wish to experience Jacobsen’s hotel the way he envisaged it.

Nimb Hotel
The Moorish-style Nimb Hotel is named after Councilor Vilhelm Nimb and his wife Louise, who ran a restaurant empire from the same site at the end of the 19th century. The Moorish form that houses Nimb Hotel took shape in the early 20th century.Following a major refurbishment in 2008, the hotel now possesses an elegant, refined design that differs considerably from the traditionally simple Scandinavian aesthetic. Oriental carpets and ornate furniture decorate the hotel’s 14 rooms, most of which face Tivoli Gardens. Nimb is also home to the acclaimed Restaurant Herman, a brasserie, a bar and grill, a stunning, high-ceilinged wine bar and an underground wine cellar.

Hotel D’Angleterre
Hotel D’Angleterre is located in the center of Copenhagen close to the Royal Palace Royal, theatres, prominent shopping areas, restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs. With more than 250 years of history, Copenhagen’s finest hotel can pride itself with being one of the oldest hotels in the world.
