It’s time to get your moustache and get hairy for a cause; MOVEMBER, the month formerly known as November is right here. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Canada and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness of cancers affecting men, specifically prostate cancer as well as depression issues.

On November 1st, guys must shave their moustache and grow it throughout the month. The goal is to get your friends to donate money to your Movember cause, which is then donated to Prostate Cancer Canada, and other men’s health research and awareness programs such as the Movember Foundation. Prostate Cancer Canada uses the Movember funds for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy and support of those affected, as well as research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer. While, The Movember Foundation uses the money raised to fund two programs: an awareness and education program that significantly increases the understanding and reduces the stigmas of the health risks that men face, and Movember’s Global Action Plan that accelerates key outcomes in prostate cancer research by facilitating global research collaboration projects.

Having been started by friends in Australia, Movember now takes place around the world in countries such as New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland.

So, if you happen to see more mustaches in November (1st to 30th), don’t give that person a funny look. Instead, donate your money and help change the face of men’s health.
