Some might find Belga Queen a bit pretentious, but its fun nonetheless and highly recommended for any visit to Brussels. Belga Queen is a fine brasserie that includes an oyster bar, a beer bar and a club with a selection of cocktails and spirits as well as a large choice of “grand crus” Havana cigars. The restaurant is set in a landmark building dating from the 18th century (previously housing the Hôtel de la Poste and then the Crédit du Nord bank) and only 4 blocks from the famous Grand Place and near the Opera House in Brussels.

Inside you’ll find a large space of typical bank architecture and wonderful glass detail from the Belle Epoque. Taken over by interior designer/chef and restaurateur Antoine Pinto - once named one of “Europe’s top Chefs” the space offers several different environments (each fantastic in their own flavor) to dazzle visitors with his culinary creations from the inventive Belgian cuisine.

Belga Queen offers a menu of traditionally Belgian dishes, adapted to today’s taste, lightened and given a very national touch through the addition of beer to numerous dishes. Original, high-quality products are chosen with care from Belgian artisans who still have respect for the soil. The wines come from Belgian producers and mostly well-known vintage, and the Ponti coffee is from a selection of ‘pure Arabica’ coffee beans from various continents and roasted locally.

With more than five hundred different beers, its gorgeous architecture and probably the grandest oyster bar in Belgium, guests at Belga Queen will recognize it isn’t just about the food here. However, I have to admit I had a fantastic meal at Belga Queen and I will certainly go back again. Bon appetit!
