The 64th annual edition of the Cannes International Film Festival kicked off this on May 11th in the beautiful resort town of Cannes, in the South of France, and none other than Robert De Niro as the president of the jury for the main competition. Bringing all of the glitz and glamour of Old Hollywood to the chic French Riviera with a breezy Mediterranean spirit, the Cannes International Film Festival is one of the most oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world.
This year, the Cannes Film Festival has already attracted many high profile celebrities, such as Angelina Jolie, Gael Garcia Bernal, Dustin Hoffman, and Brad Pitt. Woody Allen’s romantic comedy, Midnight in Paris, served as the official opening film of the festival, and other directors such as Pedro Almodóvar and Jodie Foster will be screening their films, among many other great and emerging international filmmakers. The Cannes Film Festival is considered a major showcase for European and American films, and those films’ success at the festival often predicts their success in theaters, so keep an ear open for the buzz surrounding the festival’s films.
