If you’re looking to impress few friends at your upcoming party, we have a great cocktail recipe for you; not too strong, not to light it’s called the Brandy Alexander. You’ll love the color and the taste. I discovered this drink at a restaurant few months ago and I completely loved it. Now it’s easily one of my few all-time favorite cocktails!
The Brandy Alexander is a very delicious, creamy cocktail that I’m sure you’ll love. It was allegedly during the wedding of Princess Mary and Lord Lascelles in London in the 20th century that the drink became very popular. The drink is based on an earlier gin-based cocktail called simply an “Alexander”; however, here we use a Brandy - a distilled wine that has been boiled or “burnt”. True connoisseurs will only use Armagnac or Cognac best known as the highest quality of Brandy.
Brandy Alexander cocktail recipe
Ingredients
2 oz cream
1/2 oz dark creme de cacao
1 oz brandy
ground nutmeg for garnish
Preparation
Traditionally, a Brandy Alexander is made by mixing brandy, dark creme de cacao and cream in a cocktail shaker. Stir in ice and shake all the ingredients for about 15-20 seconds, and then strain the beautiful brown drink into a cocktail martini glass. Finish the drink with a tiny sprinkle of grated nutmeg to add some flavour.
The Brandy Alexander could be served as an aperitif to rouse the appetite, in between meals or after dinner as a digestif accompanying your chocolate dessert. Don’t forget to drink responsibly even you like it…
On a side note, take a listen to this amazing tune by Feist - Brandy Alexander.
