White truffles, the ultimate luxury

Best known as the diamonds of the culinary world, truffles are harvested in many places all around the world but only two countries are the best-known sources; France, most famous for its black truffles and Italy blessed with the white truffles. White truffles are abundant in Alba and Monferrato, Piedmont, and around Parma, Modena and the Emilia Romagna regions of northern Italy.
Their flavor is intense and penetrating with a luscious faintly garlicky aroma. They are mostly consumed raw, usually shaved over pasta or rice because they loose all flavor unlike black truffles, which are generally cooked.
Due to their rarity, their inability to be farmed, and their complex taste, white truffles are by far the most desired variety of the gourmet food type. Their price range from $6,000 to $10,000 per pound based on availability and quality. They are considered the most expensive truffles of the world.
Oh and we forgot to mention, it is rumored truffles have aphrodisiacal power, just like caviar…now this is what we call, the ultimate luxury.
